a violent storm system in the deep south has caused deaths and lots of destruction. the national weather service says at least eleven tornadoes struck louisiana, mississippi and alabama yesterday afternoon and overnight. dan scheneman has the story. a savage winter storm in the than 19 million people in its path. in louisiana, several possible tornadoes wreaked havoc across the state. in the town of convent....a trailer park was s t....authorities say there were fatalities and dozens of injuries. "this is a working area this is a rural area 180 trailers back with 90 percent of them damaged." near baton rouge.....varnell oliver was inside a trailer when it began to roll

"the house started shaking it just lifted up and started flipping." elsewhere an 18 wheeler tossed onto its side....the roof of at its walls.... new overnight... columbia fire officials say a space heater is to blame for a fire that damaged a home on king street near millwood avenue. firefighters were called around 12:15 last night by the woman who lives inside the home. investigators say she tried to put out a fire near her space heater, but the flames soon re-ignited spreading to other parts of the home. the woman was able to make it out safely, and will be staying with relatives. republican presidential candidate, donald trump dominated the nevada republican caucus, tuesday. results are still coming in ... but in the early morning hours he had the support of over 45-percent of gop caucus-goers in the state. his closest rivals, marco rubio and ted cruz, were far behind, but nearly tied. trump touted entrance polling showing him winning the caucuses among a wide swath of including, as he put it, "the he drew perhaps his biggest cheers of the night when he

"i will be honest with you. it is a minor miracle that we're talking about two fatalities and maybe three

when you go back there and see that we had 163 travel trailers here and the work was canceled in this area today because of the rain so must of these travel trailers were inhabited." the governor declared a state of emergency. we will continue to monitor for overnight -- tornado warnings were issued for parts of florida and georgia as this storm system pushes east. and we could see some warnings issued as those storms move into the midlands throughout the morning. our michal higdon spoke with the national weather service here in columbia on how it warns you when severe weather approaches. like tim miller, and our first alert storm team, meteorologists at the national weather service are monitoring this storm system very closely for the potential of severe storms and tornadoes. i spoke with dan miller, a meteorologist at the national weather service. he says they'll be monitoring radar and if they believe there is severe weather, or if they get eye witness reports from a particular area -- they'll then issue out a warning that goes to local

look at one of the hardest hit areas of louisiana as tornados swept across the state. 2 people were killed and dozens injured in this rv park in convent, louisiana. it's believed to have taken a direct hit from a twister. officials say 90% of the rv park was damaged. louisiana governor john bel edwards traveled to see the devastation first hand... "i will be honest with you. it is a minor miracle that we're talking about two fatalities and maybe three more people unaccounted for and when you go back there and see that we had 163 travel trailers here and the work was canceled in this area today because of the rain so must of these travel trailers were inhabited." the governor declared a state of emergency. we will continue to monitor for any other damage around the southeast overnight in the wis alert center overnight -- tornado warnings

parts of florida and georgia as this storm system pushes east. and we could see some warnings issued as those storms move into the midlands throughout the morning. our michal higdon spoke with the national weather service here in columbia on how it warns you when severe weather approaches. like tim miller, and our first alert storm team, meteorologists at the national weather service are monitoring this storm system very closely for the potential of severe storms and tornadoes. i spoke with dan miller, a meteorologist at the national weather service. he says they'll be monitoring radar and if they believe there is severe weather, or if they get eye witness reports from a particular area -- they'll then issue out a warning that goes to local broadcast stations. the national weather service says it's extremely important that you heed every ve in the area under the warning. however, this technology is only in phones that are manufactured "i would say, as a rule, the
